DC Comics plans to reintroduce a character as gay, comic blogBleedingCool.com reports.
DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio announced the plans over the weekend at Kapow Comic Convention in London, saying that the existing superhero who was previously assumed to be straight will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.” He did not specify in which issue the reveal will occur.
President Barack Obama: Same-sex couples should be able to get married
The news comes a year after DiDio told The Advocate that he only intends to introduce new characters in the DC universe as gay rather than make existing ones gay. Of the change in plans, DC Comics Senior VP Bob Wayne told BleedingCool.com that DiDio’s view “has evolved,” echoingPresident Barack Obama’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriage.
The gay DC superhero won’t be the first gay comic book character. In 2010, Archie Comics introduced gay student Kevin Keller, who later got married. Marvel Comics will reportedly feature the first gay superhero wedding between Northstar and his boyfriend in next month’s issue ofAstonishing X-Men.
What do you think of DC Comics’ plan? Which character do you think will be gay?
So I’ve been watching Leverage lately and it’s pretty great, except there’s a bit of a Teen Wolf thing going on where I don’t actually like the lead character all that much? I mean, Nathan is better than Scott by miles, but I tend to ignore him when he’s on screen because everyone else is so much cooler.
